Kundli Milan — Kundli Matching for Marriage

Enter the groom's and the bride's birth details. The result gives the 36 gunas, doshas and their cancellations, the Mangal match and a verdict with its reasons; the detailed PDF (about 20 to 28 pages) holds the whole matching study — every kuta, the doshas, the Mangal match, each chart's marriage reading and the remedies.

What Kundli Milan is

Setting the bride's and the groom's birth charts side by side before a marriage is kundli milan — also called kundli matching, horoscope matching, gun milan or Ashtakoot milan. Its core is the Ashtakoot: eight kutas worth 36 gunas in all. All eight come from each person's Moon at birth — four from the Moon sign and four from the birth nakshatra.

The matching here does not stop at the 36 gunas. It also reads:

What you need for the matching

Both people's date, time and place of birth. The Moon crosses a nakshatra in about a day, so a wrong time can change the birth nakshatra — and with it the Tara, Yoni, Gana and Nadi points. Mangal dosha is counted from the lagna as well, and the lagna comes from the time and place of birth. Names are optional.

The 36 gunas — eight kutas and their points

Kuta Maximum Read from
Varna 1 Moon sign
Vashya 2 Moon sign (by the Moon's degree in Sagittarius and Capricorn)
Tara 3 Birth nakshatra — counted from the groom to the bride and from the bride to the groom
Yoni 4 The birth nakshatra's animal emblem
Graha Maitri 5 Friendship of the two Moon-sign lords
Gana 6 Birth nakshatra — Deva, Manushya or Rakshasa
Bhakoot 7 The distance between the two Moon signs
Nadi 8 Birth nakshatra — Aadi, Madhya or Antya
Total 36

How many gunas should match — and how the verdict is reached

The gunas give the first tier:

Gunas (of 36) Tier from the gunas
Below 18 Not recommended
18 to 24 Average — with remedies
25 to 32 Good
33 or more Excellent

But the count alone does not decide. Each of the two doshas below, unless cancelled, takes the verdict one tier down:

  1. Nadi dosha — the same nadi for both, with no cancellation;
  2. Mangal dosha — only one side Manglik, and no rule cancelling it.

The Rajju dosha — both nakshatras in the same rajju — is a kuta of the southern ten-kuta matching; our matching lists it as a caution, and it does not move the tier.

Bhakoot dosha, Gana dosha, Vedha, Mahendra and Stri-Dirgha are listed as cautions — they do not move the tier; a shortfall in Bhakoot or Gana is already counted in the 36 gunas. The result names every reason that lowered the tier.

What the result shows

The detailed matching report — PDF

From the result page you can take the detailed report as a PDF, in English or Hindi — about 20 to 28 pages, the matching alone: both charts' wheels, both sides of every kuta with its cancellation rule, the Dashakoot and the extended kutas, the Mangal match, each chart's 7th-house study, both dasha timelines on one calendar with the shared marriage windows, the remedies and the usual questions. A person's full birth chart is the separate Janam Kundali report.

FAQs

How many gunas should match in kundli milan?

Our scale: below 18 — not recommended; 18 to 24 — average, with remedies; 25 to 32 — good; 33 or more — excellent. But the count alone does not decide: an uncancelled Nadi dosha and a one-sided uncancelled Mangal dosha of moderate grade or stronger (a mild one is only a caution) each take the verdict one tier down.

Can kundli milan be done by name alone?

This matching works from the birth details. The Ashtakoot is counted from the Moon sign and the birth nakshatra, and the Mangal dosha, the rajju and the dashas cannot be found without the time and place of birth. By tradition a name's first syllable comes from the pada of the birth nakshatra, but not every name is chosen that way — so a nakshatra read from a name need not be the birth nakshatra.

Must a Manglik marry a Manglik?

The texts say that when both are Manglik the dosha cancels itself — that is the parihara, and our matching follows that rule. A person whose Mangal dosha a rule has already cancelled is not counted as Manglik. When it stands on one side only, uncancelled, and is of moderate grade or stronger, the verdict drops one tier and Mangal-shanti before the wedding is prescribed; for a mild one a simple Mangal-shanti is enough and the tier stays.

The gunas are low — is the marriage ruled out?

The matching forbids nothing. It says which kuta fell short, which dosha applied, and what cancellation the texts name for it. The decision belongs to the families — and the texts themselves place mutual understanding above all.

What appears as soon as the form is filled in?

As soon as both sets of birth details are entered, the 36 gunas, all eight kutas, the doshas, the Mangal match and a reasoned verdict appear. The detailed PDF report is taken from the result page.

Does this matching give a wedding date?

No. It gives the periods in which each chart's marriage indications are strong, and the first period in which both overlap. A wedding muhurta is a separate matter, taken from the transits and the panchang.
